Borosilicate glass has high thermal and chemical stability. Its surface is smooth, non-porous, inert, and corrosion-resistant. It is widely used in laboratory glassware, industrial equipment, and domestic cooking glassware.

Unlike round-bottomed flasks, vertical flasks—also known as stand-up or titration flasks—have a flat base and do not require a stand. Their bulbous shape and even wall thickness allow for uniform heating of the contents. The nearly round shape ensures efficient mixing when swirling, and the narrower neck reduces the risk of liquid spillage compared to beakers.
However, hip flasks should not be placed under vacuum, as their flat base makes them prone to implosion. They can be sealed effectively with cork or rubber stoppers.
