Saugflaschen werden eingesetzt zum Absaugen von Flüssigkeiten bei der Vakuumfiltration (Abnutschen).
Die Gummidichtung sorgt für eine elastische Abdichtung zwischen Büchnertrichter (Nutsche) und Saugflasche (Filtrierflasche).
Die Vakkumsaugflasche - auch Büchnerflasche genannt - ist eine Art dickwandiger Erlenmeyerkolben, der im Halsbereich eine Schlaucholive hat. An die Schlaucholive wird eine Vakuumpumpe oder ein Vakuumschlauch angeschlossen. Diese Einrichtung wird bei der Filtration mit vermindertem Druck verwendet. Die Saugflasche dient dabei als Auffanggefäss für das Filtrat.
Auf die obere Öffnung wird ein Büchnertrichter (Nutsche) aufgesetzt und mit einer Gummimanschette und konischen Gummidichtung (Guko) dicht mit der Saugflasche verbunden.
Der Büchnertrichter besteht traditionell aus Porzellan. Daneben gibt es Trichter aus Glas und Kunststoff.
Auf dem trichterförmigen Teil befindet sich ein Zylinder mit eine Lochplatte auf welche ein Filterpapier gelegt wird. Das Filterpapier wird mit Flüssigkeit angefeuchtet, um ein anfängliches Auslaufen zu verhindern. Die zu filtrierende Flüssigkeit wird in den Zylinder gegossen und mit Hilfe eines Vakuums durch die Lochplatte gezogen. Durch das Absaugen mit Vakuum kann die Filtration wesentlich beschleunigt werden. Die Filtration alleine über die Schwerkraft der Flüssigkeit wäre um ein vielfaches länger.
